This post will be about, maintenance, proper engine lubricants, and importance of monitoring of engine oil level.

As we all know Lancer Evolution’s require constant but not extensive maintenance. You should check you engine oil at least weekly, and make sure that good quality lubricants are being used. Images below show 4G63 engine with 90k miles. However this engine most likely was burning small amounts of oil in between oil changes. which with time caused one piston rings to deteriorate, which increased oil consumption in between scheduled oil changes, that caused damaged to remaining piston rings, cylinder bores and bearings.

On pictures can be seen damage on pistons, cylinder walls on all the cylinders and premature rod bearing deterioration. Possibly simple weekly oil level check could save that engine. This particular unit hasn’t been raced or abused. Only normal everyday use.
